Tiger found dead in Pilibhit

Indian Express, New Delhi, 10 February 2009

Lucknow:

The UP Forest department found a body of a male adult tiger on the banks of the Sharda Canal in Pilibhit district late on Sunday evening. With no signs of physical injury on the animal, officials say it is difficult to determine the reason for the animal's death. The body has been sent to the Institute of Veterinary Research India (IVRI), Bareilly, for post mortem.

Divisional Forest Officer (Pilibhit) Pramod Kumar Gupta said that the body had been found some 8 km away from the Uttarakhand border. "We have not found any physical injury marks on the animal's body, which indicates that there was no fight amongst animals. Also, all the parts of the tiger's body are intact hence we can rule out possibilities of poaching too", said Gupta.
