Tiger Watch : Poachers still rule
MELGHAT TIGER RESERVE - TIGER SKINS & BONES CONFISCATED
Tiger and Leopard skins,nails and bones of Tiger / Leopards, Python skins, were confiscated by the Police on the Paratwada to Pathrot road adjioning the Melghat Tiger reserve. Seven persons from Kanpur and Chikaldara were arrested including a forest dept. employee. One gun was also confiscated.

TADOBA ANDHARI TIGER RESERVE - DEAD TIGER FOUND DUMPED IN WELL
The carcass of nine year old tiger was discovered by villagers at village Katval on the outskirts of the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve. The tiger was tied to large boulders and hidden in an abandoned well about two kms from TATR. All body parts were found intact and the body bore signs of poisoning. Man -animal conflict due to tigers attacking cattle /cow-herders is likely cause of the tragic killing.

On 5th Jan. 2007 eight villagers of Katwal Tukum and Vilodhi villages decided to have a feast of wildboar meat. Every night these villagers go into their farms to protect their crops from wild boar and deer. A dry river bed nearby is used by the wildlife to come and go to the Tadoba National Park, three kms away. They illegally connected the overhead HT electric supply to an metal trip wire which would electrocute the pigs on contact, and hid in the nearby bushes. At midnight the angry roars of a tiger were heard, frightening the villagers, who ran away to their villages. Early next morning six of them ventured to the trap location, in order to remove all tell tale electric wiring, and discovered a full grown tiger, dead from electric shock. To hide the dead animal and to put one of their enemy villagers in trouble they dumped the carcass in his well, tied to large
boulders. The next day the well owner discovered the dead body floating in his well and immediately informed the Forest Dept guard. All six villagers have been arrested.
