6 tigers lost at Kanha

There's more bad news from Kanha Tiger Reserve. Tragically, another tiger was found dead in Kisli Range, yesterday morning. It was a beautiful adult male, in his prime. The animal was found lying in a waterhole with head injuries that had apparently been inflicted by another tiger. A post mortem was carried out and samples have been sent for forensic analysis.

This brings the total number of tigers that are confirmed to have died inside Kanha Tiger Reserve in the past three months to six, five of them apparently from 'in-fighting'. Apart from this, a tiger skin was seized in the town of Balaghat, near Kanha, on 11 November 2008. There are also four other unsubstantiated tiger deaths - two cubs and a male tiger on 20 January (in Kisli Range), and an adult tigress on 21 January (in Mukki Range):
