Tourists in Kanha at night

Nov 19, 2008:

Tiger hunts gaur in Kanha - 3 young tourists caught at night Mandla [MP]:

A question mark about the security administration in Kanha National Park was raised when Khatia Police arrested 3 young tourists from Nagpur staying at the Barasingha Resort Khatia, near the entrance gate in a government vehicle at Kanha National Park.

On Monday [17 Nov 08] a Tiger Show was arranged in Magar Nala Camp near Budbudi Nala. The tiger later killed a gaur there. Three young tourists from Nagpur (Mr Mayank Mishra, Mr Hemant Sahni and Mr Rahul Mandhaniya) accompanied by Forest Range Officer [Amle] Bhanvre and a Mahout were reported to have been taken to see this kill and the tiger [at night].

As per the law no person is allowed inside the park after the official closing of the park at sunset either through the government or park designated entrances. But setting aside the law, Amle took the 3 tourists from Nagpur to see the kill. The matter was brought to the notice of the Khatia Police by local residents.

The Police SHO, Mr Dinesh Singh, took immediate action and arrested the three tourists at the gate. The tourists were subsequently searched and later released when no objectionable material or photographs were found and the matter was reported to the higher authorities.

Mr R. P. Singh, Director of Kanha National Park, later stated that a complete report has been sent to the SDO Kanha after which further action is likely to be taken.
