Christmas Day : tiger killed by speeding van

December 25:

A tiger was injured and is presumed killed, when it was hit by a speeding tourist bus at Ringora village in Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR). This village is about 5 km from Ramnagar town and 3 km from Aamdanda Gate, one of the entry points for Corbett Safari.

This is one of the several other incidents where wild animals are being hit by vehicles on this road as this is a National Highway that joins Ramnagar to Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, Ranikhet and so many other small towns and villages.

In the past, efforts has been put in by The Corbett Foundation to pursue the government and build speed breakers at some of the corridors but all these efforts were in vain as the contention was that a National Highway can not have speed breakers.

There are speed breakers at points where there are villages, demanded by staging a Dharna (protest) etc., but how to do it for wild animals is a question mark.

Details of the event, in Hindi, can be found by clicking on the web location mentioned below.
