End of the road for 5 more Malayan tigers

MALAYSIA -May 30, 2009:

Malaysian officials have seized five tiger skins from two men near the Thai border.

The dried skins were hidden in the trunk of a car that customs officials in the northern Kedah state stopped on Friday. The skins are worth 90,000 ringgit ($25,800) in total.

The skins - each more than six feet (two meters) long - are from Malayan tigers.

The anti-smuggling unit at Malaysia's northern border stopped a Thai-registered vehicle Friday and discovered the skins of the endangered species on board, the Star daily said.

Two Thai men, aged 51 and 52, who were in the vehicle were detained, it said, adding that the furs were believed to be meant for distribution in Thailand.
